“Argo is a crackerjack political thriller told with intelligence, great period detail and a surprising amount of nutty humor for a serious look at the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-81.” The Hollywood Reporter
“For 100 minutes, ‘Argo’ is close to flawless.” Time Out
“There’s no doubt [Ben Affleck’s] crafted one of the best movies of the year.” Rolling Stone Magazine
“[A] gripping, beautifully performed and often very funny but dramatic thriller.” Radio Times
We’re in for a real treat in March when Ben Affleck’s multi-award winning film comes to Llancarfan. Argo, based on real events, tells the story of a far-fetched plan to rescue US citizens held hostage during the Iranian revolution in 1980.
A hit with audiences and critics alike, Argo took the top prize at this year’s Oscars®, adding to a raft of BAFTAs, Golden Globes and other prestigious awards. Why not join us and see what all the fuss is about?
Tickets are selling fast so book now to avoid disappointment.
James Bond paid a flying visit to Llancarfan last Friday courtesy of our Skyfall screening. It was a memorable occasion not least because we used a high definition (HD) projector and 5.1 audio for the first time, producing ravishing visuals and immersive, wraparound sound. So good was the effect that we plan to use HD from now on.
The evening began with a Bond-themed drinks reception (Prosecco “Casino” Royale, anyone?), and we treated the audience (our third full house of the season) to a 007 inspired promotional film (see slideshow) followed by the world premiere of Ian Fell’s tongue-in-cheek short The Man With the Liquid Ladder.
Next Friday’s performance of SKYFALL is now sold out, but tickets are still available for ARGO (22 March) and LES MISÉRABLES (20 April).
Advance sales are already strong for both these screenings, so don’t delay if you’re thinking of coming along!
Congratulations to all BAFTA recipients awarded at last night’s ceremony. Three of our forthcoming films did well on the night:
SKYFALL (Friday 22 February) took the honours for Best Original Music and Outstanding British film.
ARGO (Friday 22 March) was named Best Film overall, while Ben Affleck took the award for Best Director. The film also picked up a BAFTA for editing.
LES MISÉRABLES (Saturday 20 April) was rewarded with four gongs, for production design, make up & hair, sound and supporting actress (for Anne Hathaway’s performance).
We’re in for some real treats!
