Silver Linings Playbook (15), Saturday 8 June

Saturday 8 June
Doors 7.15pm, film starts 7.45pm

“This is a date movie that caters to the needs of both men and women: American football and comedy, ballroom dancing and romance. Silver Linings Playbook covers all those bases — and rises above them too.”
The Times

Starring two of Hollywood’s hottest young actors, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook (2012) breezes into the village on Saturday 8 June.

A difficult film to categorise, it’s probably safest to say its an offbeat-romantic-comedy-drama… but that hardly does justice to a film of rich and unique quality.

Jennifer Lawrence picked up the Best Actress Oscar for her part, and the charismatic leads are joined by Robert de Niro (always good value).

Tickets are now available by calling 01446 781144 or email The film is rated ’15’ so no one under that age will be admitted.

Summer festivities

film-festival-party-small-68662Plans are afoot to mark the end of our first season with not one but two special events. First up, we’ll hold our AGM in the afternoon before the screening of Django Unchained (18), on Saturday 6 July. We’re planning a barbecue and family social before ticket holders make their way to the village hall for the screening (which starts later than usual at 8.00pm). Full details to follow next month, but in the meantime save the date!

Then the following week we plan to host a stall at the Llancarfan Village Show. This will be an opportunity to find out more about our plans for the community cinema and sign up for next season’s membership. Plus there’ll be film-related prize competitions and we’ll have a selection of delicious Joe’s Ice Cream for sale: perfect for a hot summer’s day (fingers crossed)!

Fantastic Voyage

Last Saturday’s screening of Life of Pi went down a storm (ahem).

Despite (or maybe because of) a clash with Eurovision, we sold every seat in the house. The atmosphere was truly electric, which possibly explains how we managed to blow the amplifier during a moment of high drama (though remedial action swiftly returned service to normal).

The intermission gave everyone a chance to shake the cramped voyage from their bones, while discovering the best cure for seasickness is a Joe’s Ice Cream washed down with a bottle of J2O! Who’d have thought?

All in all it was our most successful screening to date. We’re gearing up to purchase some new seats (like the one pictured below) and all money we make is ploughed into these and other essential purchases to improve the overall experience. So a big, Bengal tiger-sized thank you to everyone who supported us- it really is very much appreciated.
