Autumn/winter programme revealed!

After a great deal of deliberation we’ve settled on a knock-out programme for the start of the new screening year:

THE GREAT GATSBY (12A)

Friday 27 September
Doors 7.15pm, film starts 7.45pm
+ Drinks reception and intermission

“The cast is first-rate, the ambiance and story provide a measure of intoxication and, most importantly, the core thematic concerns pertaining to the American dream, self-reinvention and love lost, regained and lost again are tenaciously addressed.”
The Hollywood Reporter

We kick-off in grand style, with Baz Luhrmann’s glossy and audacious adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic The Great Gatsby. Leonardo DiCaprio is in the title role, ably supported by Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire. Luhrmann doesn’t do things by half, and we can guarantee a dazzling spectacle in high definition on our big screen!

We’ll get the evening off to a suitably decadent start with a 1920s themed drinks reception to mark the beginning of our second year.

BEHIND THE CANDELABRA (15)

Friday 25 October
Doors 7.15pm, film starts 7.45pm

“As a black comedy, and as a portrait of celebrity loneliness, Behind the Candelabra is very stylish and effective, and Damon and Douglas give supremely entertaining performances.”
The Guardian

Ever wondered what went on behind the staid, buttoned up facade of that most retiring and bashful of stars, Liberace? Well, this film reveals all…

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, and based on a memoir, the film stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as you’ve never seen them before. The movie was a highlight at this year’s Cannes festival, but only appeared in cinemas a short time. Now’s your chance to see it again on the big screen, and find out what all the fuss is about.

UNTOUCHABLE (15)

Friday 22 November
Doors 7.15pm, film starts 7.45pm

“This is not a film that will change the whole world, but one that just might charm it.”
The Daily Telegraph

“It delivers broad laughs and tugs at the heartstrings without delving too deep – the very definition of a crowd-pleaser.”
Time Out

Every so often a film comes along that captures the public imagination and holds it, week after week, at the box office. One such film is Untouchable, which just happens to be French. In fact it’s the second most successful film of all time at the French box office, and is perfectly pitched to raise a laugh and elevate your spirits. Based loosely on a true story, the film is so captivating you hardly even notice the subtitles. C’est magnifique!
