“This is a doleful, radiant, understated comedy of hope and faith. That’s almost a definition of good British cinema.”
Financial Times

“A terrifically moving film that has a fitting earthbound feel to it as well as a barely suppressed anger at crimes inflicted on the powerless.”
Time Out

Based on journalist Martin Sixsmith’s 2009 investigation into the forced separation of mothers from children born out of wedlock, Stephen Frears (The Queen ) has fashioned a humane, troubling but touching true-life story starring Dame Judi Dench as Philomena and Steve Coogan as Sixsmith.

‘Philomena’ has been nominated for four Oscars, including Best Film and Best Actress, and it recently picked up a  BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The film is already proving popular: with a month to go nearly half the tickets have gone, so please book now to avoid disappointment. Telephone 01446 781 144 or email

A thrilling ride

Our thanks to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s performance of ‘Rush’. It was the first show with our new screen and projection kit working in concert with full digital surround sound.

‘Rush’ provided the perfect showcase, with its dynamic racing sequences and astonishing sound design. There was hardly a filling left unrattled in the house.
