FRIDAY 23 OCTOBER 2015

“Stunningly moving and powerful: intimate, passionate, often shocking, and almost mesmerically absorbing.” The Guardian

“It’s a perceptive examination of the singer’s need for love — from her friends, family, colleagues, husband and public — and the ways in which that need went unmet, or was exploited, at the times it ached in her the most.” The Daily Telegraph

We’re rocking to an altogether different beat in October with Amy (2015, 15), a fascinating documentary focusing on the life and tragic death of singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse.

Director Asif Kapadia (Senna, 2010) skilfully uses archive footage, including unseen film of the singer and previously unheard musical tracks, stitching together the compelling story of Winehouse’s meteoric rise and subsequent descent into the alcoholism which eventually killed her.

Having taken nearly £4m at the box office, this is one of the best performing theatrical documentaries of all time in the UK. The film is not without controversy, though, as the Winehouse family removed their endorsement on its completion, adding further dramatic complexity to this contemporary tragedy.

Join us for what promises to be a thought provoking screening in memory of an extraordinarily talented life cut short.
