When we put our final performance of the season to the public vote we didn’t know what to expect. When the votes were counted there was one clear winner, and it was the most unlikely of titles!
So our July screening, voted for by you, is Django Unchained: a rowdy, irreverent Western from Quentin Tarrantino. Not for the faint hearted, the film bears the celebrated director’s twin hallmarks of over-the-top violence and snappy, sometimes hilarious, dialogue.
Excellent turns by Christoph Waltz (who won an Oscar for his performance in Tarrantino’s Inglourious Basterds), Jamie Foxx and Leonardo Di Caprio make for compelling viewing, helping to balance the film’s outrageous excesses. And as with all of Tarrantino’s best work, the soundtrack is perfectly in tune with the movie’s hip attitude.
